BREAKING: Black Spruce Finally Brews with Spruce Tips

…with our friends from Harbor Mountain Brewing in Sitka!

After more than four and a half years of brewing, we’ve finally done it. We’re delighted to announce that our first ever spruce tip beer is out now! Boreal Burial Spruce Tip Double IPA is a collaboration with Sitka’s Harbor Mountain Brewing Company. Added in the whirlpool, the raspberry notes of the Sitka-foraged Sitka spruce tips mingle beautifully with the pineapple aromas of Idaho 7. Pilsner malt, oats and wheat create a pillowy body for these aromas to play upon. Dry-hopping with Strata and Motueka are gorgeous finishing touches to this unique and long-awaited collaboration.

Boreal Burial Spruce Tip Double IPA is available on tap and to-go from our taproom. Thank you to Zack from Harbor Mountain for coming to Fairbanks to brew with us and to the HMBC team for the spruce tips!

A Message from the Brewer

What a summer it has been. Aside from the usual summertime madness, I just finished up a course from the Master Brewers Associations of the Americas (MBAA) on Brewery Maintenance and Systems. What exactly does this mean? The course covered a range of topics from Safety to Project Management to CO2 Recovery to Pumps and Valves. We had 6 weeks of virtual lessons, assignments and discussion with fellow brewers and maintenance folks from around the country and the world. The class culminated with a week in Minneapolis where we received additional lessons, hands-on training and tours of breweries and manufacturing facilities.

So why is this important? At Black Spruce, we believe in continuous improvement and continued learning and education. The more we know about brewing and maintaining our equipment the better we can make our beer for you fine folks. I’m looking forward to implementing some of the operational efficiencies I learned about over the last 8 weeks to make sure our beer continues to be the best damn beer around.

Cheers,

Carey
