Crispy boys and girls, rejoice! We’ve got two lagers on tap, plus another inbound!
When most people think about winter, they think about dark, heavy beers. Don’t get us wrong: we love those and are thrilled to have two versions of our barrel-aged imperial stout on tap and to-go. However, we also like to get out on the trails and the slopes in the winter, and a light, crisp lager sounds a little more refreshing than a heavy stout, don’t you think?
Winter is a great time for us to take a little extra time to brew up a variety of sessionable and satiating lagers. Unlike ales, which take two to three weeks from brew to kegging or canning, lagers take five to six weeks, if not more. This is due to a cooler fermentation that takes a little extra time, along with extra conditioning time. Good things take time, you know?
At BSBC, we recently added a lenticular filter to our repertoire, just for our light ales and lagers. This filter removes small particles from the beer before it’s carbonated and packaged. Many of these small particles will naturally sink to the bottom of a tank before beer is transferred out, given time. The filter just speeds things up. The results is a beautifully bright, clear beer that’s as pretty to look at as it is refreshing.
Filtering is serious business.
Have we got you in the mood for something crisp and light? At our taproom, we have two lagers on tap, both of which are collaborations: Kelp Yeah! Rice Lager with Kelp (collaboration with Devil’s Club Brewing Company, not filtered) and Collective Perspective Vol. V West Coast Pilsner (collaboration with Girdwood Brewing Company and Devil’s Club Brewing Company, filtered). Our flagship Short Days Golden Ale is looking extra bright these days, on account of getting the filter treatment, too. Be on the lookout for a new amber lager hitting our taps in a couple of weeks, too! Prost!
Not everything at BSBC is getting filtered these days, folks. ICYMI we have a new hazy available! All the Pretty Lights Hazy DIPA features Motueka and Riwaka hops from New Zealand and showcases notes of lime zest, blood orange and tropical fruit. Enjoy a pint or grab a 4-pack to go next time you’re by our taproom!
