Gimme That Liquid Gold

Short Days Golden Ale is looking brighter than ever, tasting great and on-track to be your go-to summer crusher.

Along with Aroma Dome IPA, Short Days Golden Ale was one of the original releases here at BSBC. Like its fellow flagship, this beer has been workshopped and tweaked over the years to get it right where we want it. All that hard work has paid off, and Short Days Golden Ale is looking and tasting incredible!

The current iteration of our house golden ale takes a few cues from its lager brethren to achieve its gorgeous clarity, including extra tank time compared to our other ales and a grist bill heavy on a base malt. Nowadays, Short Days Golden Ale consists primarily of Pilsner-inspired Pure Idaho malt, along with some 2-Row, giving the beer a beautiful golden color and a pleasant biscuity flavor. A gentle dose of Cashmere hops provides a balancing bitterness and soft notes of citrus and berry. Two malts and one hop. That’s it.

Short Days Golden Ale is available on tap and in 4-packs in our taproom and at bars, restaurants and retailers throughout Fairbanks, Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.

No Gluten, No Problem

We know that beer isn’t for everyone. Maybe beer isn’t your beverage of choice, your diet is gluten-free or you’re taking a break from alcohol. Even if you choose not to imbibe in one of our beers, we’d still love to see you in our taproom and to share a beverage with you! BSBC has a variety of non-beer beverages available tailored to a variety of tastes and diets.

Our sister label, Black Spruce Fruit Project, produces a couple of different ciders, all of which are gluten-free. Golden Heart Off-Dry Cider is always on-tap, isn’t too sweet and offers a lovely, zippy acidity and bright apple flavor. For a sweeter twist, try our pineapple-infused semi-sweet cider.

Nowadays, our lighter beers, including Short Days Golden Ale and Purple Cone Contemporary Pilsner, are gluten-reduced (not gluten-free). An enzyme that we add to these beers is intended to help with the clarity of the beer, and this enzyme also happens to break down the majority of the beer’s gluten. Neat, huh?

Want to pass on alcohol? We carry two non-alcoholic beers from Athletic Brewing Company, Run Wild IPA and Upside Dawn Golden Ale, the latter of which is also gluten-reduced. If kombucha is more your style, we’ve got both Plain Jane and Blueberry Mary available from Anchorage’s Zip Kombucha. Also from Anchorage, we have Moose’s Tooth Root Beer available. For some truly local flavor, try a glass of our Birch Pop, made in-house using locally sourced birch syrup from OneTree Alaska. Oh, and all of these non-beer, non-alcoholic options are gluten-free!

Cheers, and we look forward to sharing a pint with you in our taproom soon!

Brew of the Week

Just because winter is ending doesn’t mean that stout season is. We’ve got a fresh batch of Vernal Buzz Milk Stout with Coffee & Vanilla headed into the fermenter this week! Conditioned on Madagascar vanilla and locally roasted coffee from Little Owl Cafe, this medium-bodied stout isn’t too sweet and is a terrific dark beer to enjoy year-round.

Vernal Buzz Milk Stout is available on tap and in 4-packs from our taproom and from select retailers around Fairbanks, Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley!

Next Beer Drop

Our next beer release is a re-release of a beer that was initially released during the fateful month of March 2020 and never really got its moment in the sun. Super crushable and ideal for our sunny spring days, Noyes Ice Export Lager will soon be hitting our taps! This crispy boy features mild bitterness and gentle spicy, herbal notes from German Hallertau hops and a thirst-quenching medium-light body built upon Idaho Select, Vienna and Munich malts.

Follow us on social media for details on this beer and other upcoming drops!
